Beating the Winter Blues in Kansas City

It’s that time of year, the holiday season is wrapping up and you may already be starting to count down to longer hours of daylight, warmer weather, and trips to the K. With two months to go until the first day of spring (March 20) you may experience cabin fever and long for activities that take you out of the house. Ice Skating

While you can enjoy ice skating year-round, there’s something great about skating outside in the winter. The Crown Center Ice Terrace is open now through mid-March. The Ice at Park Place in Leawood is open now through mid-February.  

Sledding

Take advantage of a snow day and enjoy one of Kansas City’s favorite sledding hills.

Penguin March (Kansas City Zoo)

The Humboldt penguins’ parade around the Helzberg Penguin Plaza at the Kansas City Zoo for all to see. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the penguins up close and personal as they enjoy the winter weather. For pricing, and hours of operation visit KansasCityZoo.org.  

Ride the Streetcar

Travel along the totally free two mile KC Streetcar line to discover some of downtown Kansas City’s most beautiful districts. The route includes 16 stops throughout the Crossroads Art District, Power & Light, and River Market. To accompany your trip, tune into a series of audio tours of downtown KC sites by the Jackson County Historical Society.  

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

The Nelson-Atkins is home to more than 40,000 pieces of art and is a world-class treasure located right in Kansas City. Be sure to visit the shuttlecocks at the Sculpture Park on the south lawn . For hours of operation and tickets visit https://www.nelson-atkins.org/
